Importance of making sure we drink enough water…
Currently, we are getting some pretty intense temperatures here in Adelaide and we are all feeling the effects of that… headaches, tired, flat, etc. Sometimes getting enough water can seem like such an effort, but if we look at what the amazing benefits of increasing our water intake it may inspire you to drink up. Many of these benefits are pretty instantaneous:
⇒ Increases energy and relieves fatigue
⇒ Promotes weight loss
⇒ Flushes out toxins
⇒ Improves skin complexion
⇒ Maintains regularity
⇒ Boosts immune system
⇒ Natural headache remedy
⇒ Prevents cramps & sprains
⇒ Puts you in a good mood
⇒ Plus if you are breastfeeding, drinking more water will only enhance your supply.
If we look at it this way… If the body is lacking in fluid it will take it from elsewhere, so our skin may be drier, we may experience constipation, we may get more headaches, we can be tired
How much should I drink?
Well, there is a simple equation.
Bodyweight / 0.024 = Water in mls
e.g If you were 60kg, it would be 60 / 0.024 = 2500, which is 2.5L – SIMPLE!
How can I increase my water intake??
• If you hate water (because its lacking flavor), there are plenty of bottles out there where you can add fruit for flavor! Or you can buy some great tea bags which flavour your water (personally, my favourite is Lipton’s Strawberry and Mint)
• If the Volume is an issue, get a drink bottle you are happy to carry around that is around 1-1.5L…2 of those day day! easy!!
• If you forget, make sure you take your drink bottle with you EVERYWHERE! With water bottles I find the “out of sight, out of mind” principle applies. If you don’t have it with you, you forget about it.
Prior to getting married I did what most Brides-to-be do… crazy diet and exercise to be as slim as possible and look amazing for the day! I was busting my gut and the weight was very slowly coming off, until I upped my water intake. Initially I was struggling to drink 750ml (or a pump bottle worth) per day, until I made a real effort to increase. Once I increased to 2-3Litres per day the weight started to fall off! It was incredible. I was more alert, less migraines and felt generally great! While I am not here to help you get your “Pre-Baby Body” back (honestly that’s a horrible thing to say to anyone and a ridiculous standard we put on ourselves! We grew a human in there for goodness sake!), this was my “lightbulb” moment when it came to water intake.
So… DRINK UP!
Your body will thank you for it….
